Creating Strong Passwords

Here is how to create a password that will stop hackers who are using password-guessing (aka dictionary attack) software. This software has become very sophisticated through the application of artificial intelligence techniques.   Here are some examples of passwords that use to be safe but now should be avoided.

To make stronger passwords that are not too hard to remember, first think of an obscure phrase of at least 3 words. second, Mix in letters and alphanumeric characters in a way that you can easily remember. Here are some examples:

&m&zingsuccess4me     letter “a” becomes “&”, characters added to end
999Ba1100nrides            letter “l” becomes “1” and “o” becomes “0
Eat5tring&&&cheese47  letter “S” becomes “5” and “&&&” moved. “Eat” added at the beginning

Alternatively, you can use one of several password generator programs including Passwords-generator.org which has a page that generates passwords with (mostly) memorable phrases.

Finally, check your password strength at Security.org .
