Dominant Systems - Dominant Systems wins Waste Knot Award

Dominant Systems Corporation has been honored as a Waste Knot Partner through the Washtenaw County Waste Knot Award Program. The event, held in honor of Earth Day, took place at the Ypsilanti Freighthouse in Depot Town on April 22. This award recognizes their commitment to preserve and protect the environment by reducing, reusing and recycling.

Dominant Systems reduces waste by encouraging electronic communication among staff members and reusing kitchenware, boxes and packing material. Electronic communication is also used for sales quotes and software licenses, eliminating the need for paper printouts. Also they have increased recycling by placing recycle bins by the fax machine and printers, and the mail sorting area – to divert paper from the trash by making it easy to recycle. Dominant Systems helps close the recycling loop by using recycled content papers, and conserves energy by purchasing Energy Star equipment and reducing temperatures when their offices are unoccupied.

This is the third year of recognition for Dominant Systems, the second year as a Partner. Washtenaw County is currently operating its seventh year of the Waste Knot Awards Program. The program was first implemented in 1998 as a way to recognize businesses, schools, and non-profit organizations that have implemented a successful waste reduction and recycling program. With over 145 participants, Waste Knot has expanded and improved every year. Additionally, the program provides technical assistance to help organizations design, implement and improve recycling and waste reduction programs.
