Product Review
"The strength of this book is that it doesnt leave any
students behind, as it is written at the appropriate level. It has very good breadth of coverage. Ive never read a text like this with such great examples. The author should be commended for these."
"I like Bronsons use of metaphors to introduce and explain new concepts. The book
would be very readable to our students."
"(This) is a very good book
well-written with appropriate topics and a lot of examples and exercises. The main theme of the book--class first approach--is (a) great one."

Product Description
Newly updated for JDK 5.0, best-selling author Gary J. Bronson's text provides students with a solid but gentle introduction to object-oriented Java programming in the first chapter. Objects and classes are defined in the context of a practical recipe analogy, ensuring that students will be able to grasp these challenging topics. Students will emerge from this text with the ability to code basic CS1 Java programming problems within a class-centered environment.
Customer Reviews & Comments If you are a hardcore "geek" type where you love programming and books with a dry technical nature then this is for you. If you're like the rest of us, you'll have to move on from this. I'm using this in my Java class and it's just got me lost because it's pretty boring and I'm a visual learner. My background is web design but moving my way into development and programming. I have done some programming and when it's laid out to me properly, I don't have any problems. However, when it's very boring and "just there" then there are problems. I purchased "Head First Java" and even though I'm only part way in, page 40, I'm gotten more out of it than the class has given me. Not to mention my teacher is dry so that's a lose lose combination. I had to go beyond that class and class' book to get the information I need!
