The book is an excellent introduction to Java 5. This book does a very good job at teaching Object-Oriented Programming in an easy to understand progressive manner. All examples in this book are very instructional, and yes, the examples do compile. Kudos to the authors, Herve and Julie. As an experienced Java programmer, I found this Java resource very useful in emphasizing my software engineeering practices and helping me to focus on designing and writing correct, maintainable java programs. Chapter 4 detailing Applets and Graphics was very informative for me detailing methods for creating graphical output and drawing shapes and text. In Summary, this resource is a must have for any Java Engineer's technical library.
