this should be it. Lambert and Osborne present an EXCELLENT overview of JAVA in this book. In contrast to some of the other reviews, I found that their BreezySwing package made it easy to avoid most of JAVA's interface cruft so that you can focus on the fundamental programming concepts. In many other respects, this is definitely one of the top JAVA textbooks available.
