Publisher Description
This is the perfect design guide for designers who want to sharpen their backend/technical skills without getting submerged in code. Natalie Zee and Susan Harris share their hard-won technical and design expertise with this fully revised second edition to the best-selling *HTML Artistry: more than code*.
Designers don't need to be intimidated by technology; the authors are professional web designers (and they teach this stuff, too) and understand what you need to know to achieve sophisticated page layout through the use of innovative typography, animation, and interactive effects. Natalie and Susan belong to the rare breed of designers who successfully adapted to the increasing demand for technical knowledge while staying loyal to sound design principles. Their discoveries will help your sites balance the front- and back-end needs of Design-appeal and technical-competency.
In a world of Flash, JavaScript, DHTML, audio integration and much more, all-too-often at the top of a client's (or a supervisor's) request list, that's saying something.
*HTML & Web Artistry 2: more than code* combines the latest and most popular uses of HTML, JavaScript, DHTML, and multimedia, along with practical, real-world advice with all new case studies and inspirational design models. This book clearly illustrates how to implement all aspects of web design, from organizing site architecture to building rich Macromedia Flash sites, while grounding all examples in sound design principles. This book will inform and inspire you to create innovative projects for the web as you progress and adapt to your clients' new expectations and demands. As an added bonus, all the source code in the book is available for readers at the book's website.
Educators take note: This may be an ideal text for your course on web design.

Customer Reviews & Comments HTML & WEB ARTISTRY 2 AUTHOR: Natalie Zee/Susan Harris PUBLISHER: New Riders REVIEWED BY: Barbara Rhoades BOOK REVIEW: After three days of reading and re-reading HTML & Web Artistry 2, the sections that contained the most useful information were the HTML Quick Reference List found on page 322 and Style Sheet & JavaScript Reference List found on page 332. Coming in a close second, are ones called Case Studies that also contain very useful information such as web-safe palette, style sheets. Quick Time, page loading, Flash, sound loops seamless transitions and pre-loading and layers. The Case Studies Chapters end with a Summary of the chapter and URLS used. The format of the book has highlighted boxes with tips and notes, the same as many web specific book formats are using. There are graphics through out the book to show examples of those subjects being discussed. Many of the chapters were done in a question and answer format and were specific to the people being interviewed. It seemed more like a promotional piece for their shop than an instructional book on HTML and Web Artistry. Granted, you can always get a bit of information by reading what others have done but this wasn't what the title of this book lead one to believe it would be. The two reference chapters and these Case Studies make this a viable book from which to learn something.
