Reading a description in a book is one thing, but sometimes you need someone to show you how a website works. EBay is a big website and it can easily be overwhelming if you don t know where to start. The Dont Bid On It Video Classroom is a complete demonstration of every mouse click required to setup eBay and PayPal accounts, and how to use both eBay and PayPal(the most common payment system used on eBay).
The video runs on your computer and you can jump to any lesson, start and stop lessons to follow along on the actual eBay website. The demonstrations are detailed and every step is explained along the way. It starts with basics about setting up eBay and PayPal accounts. More experienced members may skip over these chapters but they did have some important information that all users should know. These beginner sections included discussions about making sure you are on the real website and not spoof sites, and what information you enter will be made public and what will not. The more meaty sections involved searching and finding items to buy, how to buy using buy it now, advanced searching, how to research a price to make sure it is a good price, checking out a seller, looking up what other members have bought and sold even if no one left feedback, and how to place a bid without being immediately outbid. It shows how to research a seller to verify they are legitimate and that the account has not been hijacked before you place a bid. The video also looks at some bad seller feedback profiles and explains why they are bad sellers.
The seller section demonstrates how to setup an auction, which options to choose, and why you should not choose certain options that may cost you bids. It also explains how to deal with non paying bidders and how to ship an item using PayPal s shipping system.
Dont mistake this for a beginner s video. It is clearly aimed at new or inexperienced eBay members; however the advanced section has a lot of great advice and auction critiques that apply to experienced members as well.
The video is much more detailed than I had expected. It includes actual demonstrations for leaving feedback, filing complaints, follow-up feedback, filing for listing refunds, and other pages members may be unfamiliar with and confused about. It explains exactly which options to choose and why.
The bonus section includes additional information showing a number of auctions that are critiqued. Some quite harshly critiqued! The narrator shows an example auction and then explains everything the seller did wrong and what they should have done to make their item sell. They also look at a number of fraudulent auctions and explain what elements make the auction stand out as a fraudulent auction so you will be able to spot real fraudulent auctions or bad sellers. The bonus section continues with a demonstration of snipe bidding, the technique used by expert bidders. The snipe bidding tutorial demonstrates how to both place snipe bids manually, and how to do it using special software. There is also a demonstration of a free security tool from mylittlemole.com which will alert you to spoof websites and help protect you from account hijacking.
Many of the concepts explained in the beginner section of the Dont Bid On It book suddenly became clear when they are demonstrated and explained in the video.
If you want to know how to use eBay, this is a great way to learn not only how but how to do it right. The reasonable price, $10, only makes it more enticing when you think about all the bargains on eBay it can open up to you. --Staff Writer

The Dont Bid On It book has a lot of information so you might expect this video to be a re-hash. It has some of the same information but it also has lots and lots of information not in the book. It also has demonstrations where they explain how to do basics like create an ebay account(there is a right way and a wrong way to do it) to more advanced topics like selling without driving away bidders, using snipe bidding, there is even a demonstration of how to snipe bid the manual way and how to do it with software. The best part for me, being an experienced ebay user, was the auction examples where they review several auctions and explain what the seller did right and wrong and which auctions were posted by scammers. Very important stuff for any ebay user to know! Also a great introduction for beginners who are afraid to try ebay without someone showing them how it is done. This video shows everything...and I mean everything. There are no parts where they say 'just do this...' and cut away,they show every step and explain why they are doing it the way they do it. I will never bid on the first day an auction opens again, I know better now.
