Product Description
With the many technical, complex, and interwoven words, and new words being created daily, even veteran photographers have trouble keeping up with the lingo of digital photography. The solution comes to us in The Glossary of Digital Photography, which is the most comprehensive publication of its kind to date. With over 1500 words, abbreviations, and acronyms, the Glossary strives to help those involved in this cutting-edge industry to understand the language that makes it up. The Glossary has been extensively researched to collect the terms currently in use and to provide the most up-to-date meanings of these terms.
The Glossary of Digital Photography will appeal to advanced amateur photographers with more than an average interest in their hobby; to professional photographers with an interest in digital photography; to students of photography, design, and related fields; and to professionals in the design, prepress, printing, and publishing professions.
About The Author
John Blair began writing and photographing in elementary school, publishing and selling his own newspaper at age 10. He has been a professional photographer for over 35 years, with a specialty of photographing women. He is experienced in boudoir, portrait, wedding, commercial, editorial, stock, and fine art photography. He began working on computers in 1966 while still in high school, and has owned and operated his own computers since 1978. He has been working in various aspects of digital photography since 1991, starting in Photoshop 2.5! His boudoir photography and scenes of him at work were featured on the French television program, "This Crazy World". His first commercially published and distributed book, Digital Boudoir Photography, was released in May 2006, and his second, Adobe Lightroom: Photographers' Guide, is due out in February 2007. One of his pastimes has been writing and researching for fun. His large photographic library collection was begun in the 1960's. John has taught courses, presented seminars, and lectured on photographic and business topics to groups of all ages, from middle school children through professionals. John's award-winning work has led to his being twice named Photographer of the Year in five Northern California counties. He has received a number of awards and honors from the Professional Photographers of California. His studio is located in the redwood forests of Northern California, which he shares with his wife and three large dogs. In his spare time he is a volunteer firefighter.
Customer Reviews & Comments I am putting together a basic photography class for people at work, to help support a photography contest we are going to host in order to boost our internal stock photography library. Putting together the presentation is easy enough, and defining terms in said presentation is easy thanks to the power of Google and Wikipedia. But how do I deal with things that come up while I am giving the presentation? I am no expert, and I don't want to derail the presentation to go online and look something up. Enter The Glossary of Digital Photography by John G. Blair. The book is 311 pages, and is full of definitions and illustrations of terms ranging from "16.7 million colors" to "bokeh", "layer masks", "ISO" and ending with "zipped" (as in zip file). There are no tutorials, this book is purely meant to define terms and concepts. That said, some concepts, such as "descreening" do include before and after images to show what the results of the concept could be. I have found this book to be an excellent reference as I put my presentation together, and will keep it handy as I continue to learn more about this hobby of mine.
