Many printer problems can be corrected with simple procedures such as careful cleaning or minor adjustments. This book gives illustrated advice on troubleshooting and repairing problems with dot-matrix, daisy wheel, ink-jet, thermal, and laser printers. Although the back cover advertises "No special tools required!" a closer look inside reveals that repairs are graded into three types. Easy repairs require no tools or technical skill (example: check the toner cartridge). Moderate repairs call for simple tools, with some technical aptitude helpful (example: clean the corona wire) . For hard repairs, simple test equipment is required and technical aptitude preferred (example: test the printer's memory). The book includes a very informative short course in electronics and a chapter on mechanical parts. You can, for instance, learn how solenoids work. A brief glossary, a bibliography, and a parts-supply vendor list round out a very readable book. Copyright 1992 Reed Business Information, Inc.
