Product Description
The Just Enough Security (JES) approach to information assurance is based on the belief that no one safeguard can completely protect your critical information assets from a highly motivated threat. The JES security model combines multiple layers of safeguards with simple risk management tools to help you achieve both the security of your information assets and a return on your security investment. To allow you to quickly apply the basic principles of JES, this book helps you build the necessary skills in three steps. Part 1 of this book contains three primers to ensure you have the basic technical knowledge necessary to understand each layer of the JES model. These primers include networking, security, and risk management. Part 2 introduces the various layers of the JES model with detailed explanations of how to implement each. Finally, business continuity and incident management principles are discussed in Part 3.

Customer Reviews & Comments This very well written, well illustrated book is not the type of book this reader would normally pick up to read: books on business problems, management methods, tiered controls etc don't usually make for interesting reading to the non-corporate type. But don't let the cover deceive you. This concise, clearly written adjunct to controlling even your personal computer has a wealth of information and a solid leader in author Tom Olzak to take you through the maze of loopholes that daily threaten our privacy. After spending valuable time (for the novice at least) on the definition of terms that abound in the world of invasion (worms, viruses, trojans, firewalls, etc), Olzak sets out to demonstrate through a fictitious business just how everyone can understand and utilize the tiered level of information protection. This is not a space to describe his JES (Just Enough Security) concept: for those clever enough to buy this book the details are before you and for those who feel outside the loop of such topics, recreating the schemata would be dull to read in a review. Suffice it to say that sooner or later no matter what your attachment to your 'private information source' extent is, this is a readable, digestible manual that looks into the history of invasion and into the future of what is possible. It is a fine read and a must read for small and medium sized business who think they are protected....! Grady Harp, July 06
