Product Description
Hands-On AutoCAD is a comprehensive, basic CAD textbook that teaches the AutoCAD software using short, interesting projects that will capture and hold student attention. The chapters are ordered logically for CAD and cover 2D and 3D CAD. Each chapter has a separate "Teamwork Project" designed to allow students to pursue chapter topics in a second real-world scenario. National CAD standards have been developed by NACFAM. Hands-On AutoCAD is designed from the ground up to meet these National Standards.
Customer Reviews & Comments I bought 75 copies of this book for my high school CADD class. I had hoped my students could self-study with help from me as required. I teach 4 other software titles in the same classroom and I am spread fairly thin answering questions. After introducing the basics of Autocad, I turned my students loose using "Hands on Autocad". It wasn't very long until many hands started to rise. I went to the first student and after reading the section they were trying to get through realized the instructions were backwards. They were told to offset a line to the right but in order to draw the object the line needed to be offset to the left. That was the first of many mistakes and or omissions in this book. Many diagrams are missing dimensions required to accurately complete a project. There are dimensions that are off by a factor of 100, when compared to the written instructions. I can always tell when my students run across another mistake in the book, hands start sprouting like crocus in the spring. I have a wide range of students in my classes, from learning impaired to near genius. Most of the lower level kids are sequential learners, every step must be defined. The near genius kids use the mistakes as a game to see who can be the first to figure out what the author was trying explain. The content is what made me buy this book. Most CADD text books are pure drawing. I liked this book because it relates CADD to life and work. I will continue to use the book but I am not looking forward to the extra time I will spend sorting out the mistakes.
