Customer Reviews & Comments I'll try to be as constructive as I can here because if the author is going to continue further editions of this book as well as her writing career, she needs to make major changes. This book was a class requirement for me and it was just so frustrating to wade through the muck and mistakes. Almost everyone in class was frustrated with the book. 1. POORLY WORDED. This should be rule #1 for instructional books. I had to ask myself so many times if the author's first language is English because there are so many awkwardly constructed sentences that create so much confusion. Two sentences next to each other lack transition that clarifies the connection between them. I had to stop so many times trying to figure out how one sentence related to the next. Overall clarity is very poor. 2. POOR TEACHING CONCEPTS. The book will go on at length about a particular topic or concept and will not define it until sentences, paragraphs or even pages later, if at all! Each concept/term should be defined and explained as they are introduced otherwise it'll be meaningless to the reader. 3. SLOPPY. Typos and instructional errors. You only have to look at how big the list of errors from the Errata is to know that it's almost appropriate to call it unprofessional. 4. POORLY STRUCTURED. Coding examples sometimes don't flow or fit easily with the text. The figures and diagrams are difficult to understand. 5. 2ND EDITION! These would all be a little forgivable if I was reviewing the first edition, but no it's the 2nd edition and I can't even imagine what was on the first edition. The pros: 1. It's a nice idea integrating all these elements like XML, Visual Basic, HTML, Data bindings, with ASP.NET. I just wish the book delivered on that. 2. I haven't read previous ASP.net books so I have no way to compare, however, I can compare them with my XML, HTML, JavaScript and Visual Basic books and the teaching methods of this book is just nowhere near up to par. 3. The cover is kinda nice. Look, I don't doubt that the author has a knowledge and understanding of the subject matter and the concepts. The problem is how she presents it. Perhaps she needs a co-author to handle the basic instructional writing.
