Product Description
Welcome to the essential SharePoint 2010 guide for getting started with taxonomies, tags, and content types in SharePoint 2010. The SharePoint 2010 Consultant's Handbook (First Edition) summarizes our field guides and best practices for planning, installing, customizing and using the Managed Metadata Service in SharePoint. Based on real world examples for how a Microsoft Partner trains its field consultants and works with clients, you will: - get a hands on review of the new tools for managing taxonomies, folksonomies, tags and content types - see how to define a central hierarchy of document tags and groups to share across the enterprise - learn about end user tags and trends ("folksonomy") - get Tips and Tricks on how to prepare your organization to use MMS effectively from day one
Customer Reviews & Comments In the interest of full disclosure: I work closely with the author on a day-to-day basis. That has certainly informed my opinion of this work. It has also given me insight into what clients and other consultants look for in wanting to more closely understand the new managed metadata capabilities in SharePoint 2010.
I think that this book is a good start to, and would be an excellent chapter in, a more comprehensive guide to SharePoint 2010. I also think that, while expensive relative to mass-produced, large-run books, it provides a lot of value on this very specific topic relative to what I see clients pay for:
-- classroon or on-line training on this topic
-- consulting services in this area
-- conference sessions on this topic.
Given what I know clients pay for this kind of advice and guidance, I think that clients and other consultants will find a lot of value in this book's content if they are just getting started with SharePoint 2010's managed metadata services.
