Customer Reviews & Comments As a university educator, this book has been used in my courses to
supplement other texts in technology courses designed primarily for
business and humanities majors. The book provided an outstanding
resource and forum guide. There is no possible way an educator could
have the time to accumulate such an outstanding and diverse collection
of current, interesting, pragmatic and pertinent articles related to
technology, as it applies to security, social values, law, ethics,
education, the Internet and the computer software industry. The key
word is pragmatic. It should be sold to parents of my students as well.
The cost is well worth it and a fraction of the cost of other books,
which frankly, my students do not read. This book, they read. The
introductory paragraph written by the authors is concise and inviting,
and the articles truly excite the students. I have never had students
display this much interest in technology. There is no question that
this book has had more of a profound impact on the level of interest of
my students than any other book or technology I have utilized in
teaching. But perhaps even more important, my students now understand
why it is so important for them to keep up with current events. It
seems obvious that the authors provided enough forums for a 14 or 15
week semester in order to assign two per week. For this reason, there
is no way that the book should include any additional work for the
student. There is not enough time in a semester to have additional
terms and talking points added to these assignments, when my students
are being given assignments from the other textbooks we use. Therefore,
I disagree with any critique that states the book is too thin. I
applaud the authors for not making it any bigger as this will drive the
cost up for our students and negate the practical use of this book as a
necessary supplement. Beyond being obvious, the authors explain that
this is intended to be "supplemental" in the very first paragraph of the
preface.
