This is the first new book on Informix in a long while and it is refreshing to read. It covers the fundamentals that every DBA needs to know, and enough new material that every Informix DBA will need a copy, even if you have his previous books. The book is based on the current Informix 11.5 release and is packed with new features that are not in any other book on Informix. Carlton starts off with an excellent overview of what "extensible" database technology means and why it is important to you as a user. Then he gets into everything you need to know to set up and administrate an Informix server. He covers backups, restores, (including table level restores) and all the new monitoring tools and utilities in Informix 11. I have used Carlton's books as a resource for students in my Informix DBA courses. This is a complete update of the book and I will be using it in all future classes.
