I applaud the authors selection of topics, and I like that most of the examples in the book are short and sweet applications. The book is written in a stepwise tutorial fashion, with fairly good explanations for the steps involved. However, it seems like the authors were trying to conserve paper by forgetting to put in necessary steps or by referencing code in the download files rather than including them in the tutorial steps themselves. If a reader is going through a stepwise progression to get to the final product, the absence of critical methods described within the text really interrupts the orderly flow of the tutorial. When learning a technique for the first time, this really matters! This is especially so in the movie player chapters. There are some really interesting techniques left out that could have made the experience more fun and efficient. My suggestion: don't worry about a shortage of paper or ink and tell the whole story.
