Customer Reviews & Comments I recently purchased this textbook in order to familiarize myself with Peachtree accounting software. So far, I am very pleased with the content and structure of the book, which is divided into two main parts. The first part consists of an introductory chapter (an interactive tour of Peachtree), followed by a few chapters, each dealing with the preparation of a particular financial statement (Balance Sheet, Income Statement & Statement of Retained Earnings, and the Statement of Cash Flows). Chapter 5 explains how to create supporting reports that aid in business decision making.
Part 2 actually puts the information learned in the first part to use by having the reader create a Peachtree file which will be used to "record and analyze business events". Although I haven't reached this point yet, I can tell from the first few chapters that the author's step by step approach will prove effective throughout the remainder of the text. At the end of the chapters are various exercises, assignments and cases that reinforce the topics covered. I'm sure they are effective, but I haven't needed to use them yet since the text seems to contain all the information I need. Perhaps I will find them necessary when I get to Part 2.
What I especially like about this textbook is that the author really knows how to explain each step thoroughly, so that there is no confusion. I was debating between this text and Carol Yacht's "Computer Accounting with Peachtree Complete". However, I chose this one mainly because it was cheaper and seems to cover everything I am interested in learning about this software.
I should also mention that my operating system is Windows 7 64-bit, and I have had no technical problems whatsoever with the included Peachtree software. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase, and I will try to update this review once I finish the remaining chapters.
UPDATE:
I have just finished studying Chapter 9, and my expectations have definitely been met with this textbook. I haven't even needed to look at the additional exercises at the end of the chapters because the text was so thorough. I also like the fact that at the end of each chapter, there is a Business Events Summary which lists the page number for all of the business event examples covered in the chapter. A very useful tool, no doubt. Also of note, is that each chapter has its own data file designed specifically for the examples of that chapter, so you don't have to worry about making mistakes in previous chapters. I think that anyone interested in learning about Peachtree, as well as the different accounting cycles as they relate to information systems in general, would find this textbook very useful.
